Neha here! Hope you are enjoying our current theme of the month.Deck up your Home-Challenge#56 !!!
Hello people. First of all I would like to thank the whole Lulupu Team for giving me this opportunity. I hope you all like what I have created for this month's challenge 'Deck up your Home'. Before we start, a little bit about me.
1. Tell us a little about yourself and your family.
My name is Chirali Shah. I am a Chartered Accountant in practice by profession and crafting is my passion. So it is not my whole time job. But yes, Someday I would love to dedicate my everyday to crafting. I live with my family in Ahmedabad. A small family of Mom Dad Brother and Sister who has been married to the most loving and knowledgeable person.
2. How did you become interested in crafts and what inspired you to start blogging?
Before I got a Chartered degree, there was a high time when i badly wanted to do something that I love and by chance made a ring holder for sister's engagement, followed by birthday gifts for Jiju and a friend's sister. There I realised to make it professional. A friend's suggestion and family's support led me to step into this. As much as i explored, i found some people and blogs. The first person who inspired me for blogging is Mallika Kejriwal. I learnt a lot from her blogs so I thought of it if i can inspire someone.
3. What are some of your "go-to" supplies for crafting?
My "go-to" supplies for crafting are WRMK trimmer and scorer, cutter, PPs and my favourite embellishments flowers, laces and nowadays charms too.
4. What is your favorite crafting technique?
Embossing and mixed media is my most favourite.
5. How would you describe your crafting style?
Colourful and floral. Even if i think to make something vintage, i end up making it colourful.
6. How long have you been crafting?
Since 1.5 years.
7. My signature style
Arrangement of flowers. They will be arranged in one corner followed by lighter amount of flowers on opposite corner.
8. Who are some of your influences? Who has been your inspiration?
Almost every person whether she is new or experienced. A big inspiration is Mallika Kejriwal.
9. When not crafting , what keeps you busy?
My profession, movies and hanging out.
10. What are you currently working on?
Currently I am working on a mini album and a baby record album.
So here is my take on current challenge. It is a Handmade Photo Frame with pictorial. This will be a long post with photos for each detail. So let's start.
For a base, get a 23*21" sheet. Score it on 2", 3", 5", 6", 8" from all four sides so that you end up with 5"*7" rectangle in the center.
Then cut four longer sides i.e. 23" as shown in following image. There is a small 1" cut on that slick strip that is cut. See it closely.
It should result in this:
Do the same to opposite side and fold it:
Glue the outer sides of 2" and that small 1*1" portion of four sides. See below:
You can use a tacky tape too but I prefer glue just to adjust them when all the ends are sticked. Now stick straight parts
I forgot to glue those triangles before. They are not mandatory but if you glue them, there won't be any space between boxes you are making.
Now, you need to be little careful. Those 1*1" small parts should be adhered inside the sticked straight parts so that you won't see any space in between boxes.
It will end up like this. Pretty, isn't it? Now embellish it. I embellished inside first because i wanted to cover it with a plastic. You can keep it open too.
Now adhere a plastic and then paper and embellish it.
Before I show u final look, one thing is left and that is stand of a frame. So get a leftover from that 23*21" sheet, score them every 1", cut 2" and fold it as shown in image:
Stick it as below image and Cut extra portion from that triangle side so strip will be 1*6". Fold it from 3". That extra score of 1" won't bother you so don't worry.
Take a small strip of 3" from those leftovers only and fold it on 1". Glue them and stick as shown
You can adjust them as per your requirement of slope of frame. I like to keep a little slope so have kept it tight. Now stick on back side.
Frame is ready. :) now final look:
I adhered that net on back of flowers and lamp with Mod Podge. Colourful butterfly is a result of washi tapes. I adhered 4 washi tapes on paper and die cut it. There is a yellow washi tape as a lamp light on back of a lamp. And border of a frame is also a combination of two washi tapes.
I hope you enjoyed it.
